Police officers have been carrying out searches of youths in Calne town centre after two males successfully flee them during a foot pursuit.

They arrived in The Pippin at around 5.10pm this evening (Tuesday 8 November) following a call from a member of the public about four youths discussing knives and stabbings.

But two males decided not to stick around and speak to officers – fleeing the area towards Mill Street. One of the males ran on foot, whilst the other cycled away at speed.

Following the chase, in which both males were able to evade capture, officers carried out searches of four males in The Pippin. No weapons were found.

Remaining in the area, they carried out searches in bins, flowerbeds and bushes – hunting anything that may have been discarded or hidden, like weapons.

The news comes just 24 hours after an incident in the same area – where three males reportedly sustained wounds during the incident, including a stab wound to the leg.

Wiltshire Police earlier announced that ten teenage boys, from Devizes, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following “extensive CCTV enquiries”.

Due to the number of detainees, the youths – aged between 14 and 17 – were taken to both Melksham and Swindon custody suites to be processed and questioned.

At the scene of the disorder on Monday afternoon (7 November), a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
