There are three miles of traffic delays on the M4 near Swindon following a major lorry blaze.

Emergency services were called to the fire at around 2.30am this morning (Friday, 15 July).

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent several fire crews to extinguish the flames.

Lanes one and two of the M4 westbound between junctions 14 (Hungerford) and 15 (Swindon).

Nobody has been injured in the incident, according to Wiltshire Police’s roads policing unit.

Highways England estimates motorists travelling towards Swindon westbound will face delays of around 30 minutes – with only one lane open past the destroyed lorry trailer.

A spokesperson said: “There is currently approx. 3 miles of congestion, which is causing delays of at least 30 minutes on approach to this M4 westbound incident between J14 (Hungerford) and J15 (Swindon).

“2 lanes (of 3) remain closed for ongoing clear up and vehicle recovery.”
