Having sex with someone you don’t live with is now illegal during pandemic

Having sex in your own home with someone from a different household could land you a criminal record from today thanks to an update to the coronavirus lockdown rules.

As part of the regulation changes announced last week, the government has made it illegal to get intimate with someone who does not live in your household.

The act was always against the lockdown law but now you can face prosecution with amendment regulations being introduced in parliament this morning.

The legislation explicitly bans those living in England and Wales from being inside the house in a gathering of more than one person without a reasonable excuse.

There are some exemptions. You are allowed to gather within a private residence if people are: attending a funeral, fleeing a risk of violence or moving home for example.

“To be clear – from tomorrow – the police can no longer get involved with why you are outside of the place you are living”, human rights barrister Adam Wagner wrote on Twitter.

Adding: “No more power to direct people back home. No more power to fine for leaving / being outside of home without reasonable excuse.”
