A suspected gunman has been charged after a police chase ended in a crash on Junction 17 of the M4 in Wiltshire on Tuesday (20 May).

Avon and Somerset Police had been in pursuit of a wanted male driving a black Audi Q3 following a violent burglary in Pengam, Wales, at around 1.45am.

At 2.50am – during the authorised chase – the fleeing driver collided with a member of the public on the busy motorway junction near Chippenham.

The Audi flipped and rolled, before 37-year-old Michael Dumbuya, from London, was arrested at the scene.

He’s since been charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, possession of a firearm and going equipped for burglary.

Junction 17 was partially closed for around 18 hours as at least one firearm – and other items – were forensically recovered from the area.

The person who was assaulted in the Pengam burglary was taken to hospital with injures, but has since been discharged.

Detective Superintendent Steven Maloney, of Gwent Police, said: “Our investigation into these matters continues and we’re keen to identify the other two men reportedly involved in the burglary earlier this week.

“If you know who they are, then I would urge you to get it touch with us so we can continue to take action as we have so far with the arrest and charging decision.

“We understand that the collision which followed the reported burglary caused a significant impact to many motorists, so I’m grateful to the public for their patience and understanding as officers carried out their enquiries.”
