A farmer’s field caught fire after a disposable barbecue was used at a picnic.
The fire service was called to the scene in the Calne area on Thursday evening (26 June).
On arrival, firefighters found a large section of a field well alight – alongside more than a dozen empty cans of alcohol.

“Tonight’s second call was to an area of grass well alight within a farmers field”, a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
“There have been reports of people having disposable BBQ’s in the field recently.
“Thankfully the fire was contained and didn’t spread too far and we were able to extinguish quickly.”
Earlier this month, the fire service issued a warning about the risk of wildfires.
People are being urged to avoid activities that could spark fires on open land, such as using disposable barbecues, lighting campfires, or carelessly discarding cigarettes.
At the time, Group Manager Jim Weston said: “The longer we go without rain means that the ground and foliage get really dry, leading to a greater risk of fire spreading if something happens to cause ignition.
