Emergency services have rescued a man after he reportedly tumbled into the River Avon.

999 crews responded to the incident in Bridge Street, Salisbury, at 4.20pm on Tuesday (4 February).

Firefighters from Salisbury and Amesbury attended the scene alongside police officers and an ambulance crew.

The man was swiftly brought to safety and handed over to medics for treatment.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 4.21pm today (February 4) to Bridge Street, Salisbury, to assist the ambulance service with a rescue from water.

“A wading team from Salisbury and a crew from Amesbury attended, and one casualty was brought to safety into the care of paramedics.”

Wiltshire Police confirmed that officers provided assistance after a man “reportedly fell into the River Avon” – but further details about what happened are unclear.
