Chippenham town centre is underwater this morning (Monday).

Emergency services are responding to severe flooding following Storm Bert.

The Bridge, High Street, Bridge Centre Roundabout, Avenue La Fleche and numerous other roads are submerged, with vehicles stranded in the deep water.

Many homes and businesses have been flooded, with efforts ongoing to recover possessions. However, the water appears to be receding slowly.

Most local schools are also closed, due to lack of teaching staff. Read the full list of schools closures >

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Chippenham town centre is unpassable due to the river Avon bursting its banks.

“The Bridge centre roundabout is flooded and also unpassable.”

They continued: “Lacock The Wharf, bridge flooded.

“Sutton Benger to Christian Malford flooded and blocked by abandoned vehicles.

“Holt to BOA flooded and unpassable.

“B3109 Corsham to BOA closed from Fiveways junction.

“Most minor roads have deep standing water, please drive carefully.”

The bus company, Faresaver, say they’re unable to serve Chippenham town centre and train station – and are asking passengers not to travel.

In a statement, a spokesperson wrote: “We recognise that many roads have been closed across the region due to flooding.

“This is likely to cause disruption to services Monday morning.

“We will update as the morning progresses but would advise passengers not to travel unless necessary.”
