The Metropolitan Police tonight have confirmed that the couple in Amesbury who are critically ill in hospital were exposed to the same nerve agent as Sergei and Yulia Skripal.

Emergency services were called to an address in Muggleton Road, Amesbury, on Saturday evening after a man and woman, both in their 40s, were found unconscious in a property.

They are both currently receiving treatment for exposure to the nerve agent Novichok at Salisbury District Hospital. They are both in a critical condition.

This news comes four months after the former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and Yulia were found critically ill on a bench in Salisbury. They have both recovered since the attack.

Counter terrorism police have officially taken the lead on this ongoing investigation. At least 100 specialist detectives are now working on this case alongside Wiltshire Police.
