A cyclist was seriously injured after being hit by an overtaking car on the B3109.

999 responders raced to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision at the junction for Wadswick Country Store, near Corsham, at around 9.35am this morning (Thursday).

A cyclist, a woman aged in her 40s, was turning right into the store’s entrance road when she was struck by a silver Mercedes on the wrong side of the road.

Police believe a van travelling behind the cyclist had slowed down to allow her to turn, but the car – travelling the same directions – has overtaken the van and impacted the cyclist.

She sustained serious injuries and members of the public provided first aid ahead of the emergency services arriving at the scene.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended in a rapid response vehicle, and the patient was transported to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by land ambulance.

The B3109 has been closed in both directions since the incident – with a forensic collision investigation underway since around mid-afternoon.

The route is shut between Leafy Lane and the A365 Devizes Road, and is expected to remain closed until late tonight.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The stretch of road remains closed while officers carry out enquiries.

“Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam are asked to contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 68 of today’s date.

“Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
