Arrests made after report of ‘suspicious men’ walking towards phone shop

The police helicopter was called into to assist in the search for four men who had been spotted acting suspiciously in west Swindon last late night.

At around 10pm on Sunday evening, Wiltshire Police received a report from a member of the public about the males in a vehicle parked in Mannington Lane in Westlea.

The men were seen walking towards the Carphone Warehouse in Wootton Bassett Road.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene and conducted a search of the area, supported by the a National Police Air Service helicopter from Almondsbury, near Bristol.

On searching the vehicle, officers found tools including an angle grinder blade and a hatchet.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and he remains in custody for questioning.

“As part of our enquiries, two other men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and have since been released with no further action.”
