A man with a water pistol sparked police to close Manchester Road in Swindon this afternoon.

Approximately eight police cars – including police dog units and unmarked armed response vehicles – were called to the main road through Broadgreen at around 4.15pm.

“Three armed cops called for someone to come out the house. He came out with his hands in the air.

“They made him lay down on the floor in the middle of the road while pointing guns at him”, a witness said.

An eyewitness told Wiltshire 999s that town centre security guards followed the man after sighting a firearm, possiblly a hand pistol. It later turned out to be a water pistol.

The road was closed between Graham Street and Gladstone street until just before 5pm.

Wiltshire Police confirmed they were called to a male acting suspiciously in Manchester Road at around 4.15pm today, arresting one man, who’s currently in custody at Gablecross police station.
