Two men have been sentenced for their part in a street fight in Amesbury.

Police were called to the disorder, which took place in Fosters Bushes and Sandell Place, on 28 July 2020 as members of the public – including children – watched it unfold.

Jordan Sheldon, 28, and David Langley, 42, were witnessed the pair’s altercation which also involved Langley chasing Sheldon with a glass bottle.

Following an investigation by Wiltshire Police, both men were charged under Section 4 of the Public Order Act.

At the end of last month Sheldon, of Salisbury Road, Amesbury, received a 12-month community order, as well as being ordered to pay a total of £360 in court costs and victim surcharges.

Yesterday (14 September) Langley, of Earls Court Road, Amesbury, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’Court and was sentenced to nine weeks in prison, as well as being ordered to pay costs and surcharges of £748.

A force spokesperson said: “This altercation happened at around 5.30pm in the evening, when there were a number of people around who witnessed what happened and found the incident incredibly frightening.

“The pair were unknown to each other and it is unclear exactly why the fight started, but it quickly escalated and continued for a number of minutes.

“We will not tolerate this type of violence and disorder in Amesbury and hope it shows that we will take swift action and ensure these sorts of offenders face justice.”
