The A36 near Wiltshire is closed and a driver has been airlifted after a serious crash.
Emergency services were to the busy route between the village of Standerwick and the A361 at Beckington just before 5pm this afternoon (Tuesday).
Avon and Somerset Police said the incident involved two cars – a black Peugeot and a white Hyundai.
Firefighters from Frome and Trowbridge used hydraulic cutting kit to extricate a casualty from one of the cars.
One driver sustained significant injuries and has been airlifted to Southmead Hospital by Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance for urgent treatment.
A second driver sustained injuries, and has gone to hospital. Both casualties’ next of kins have been informed, it’s been confirmed.
The road could remain closed in both directions for many hours for forensic investigation work and later, vehicle recovery.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Control mobilised one appliance from Frome Fire Station and one appliance from Trowbridge Fire Station to a 2 vehicle RTC.
“Once in attendance crews confirmed one person trapped within a vehicle. Crews got to work to release one casualty using hydraulic cutting equipment and handed the casualty over to the paramedics.“
