A head-on crash on the A303 in Wiltshire has left a woman fighting for her life.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the major route in the village of Winterbourne Stoke at around midday today (Sunday).
The road traffic collision involved a blue Citroen C5 and a grey Hyundai Kona – with one of the vehicles bursting into flames.
Two air ambulances were scrambled, with critical care medics providing urgent treatment to two casualties with significant trauma injuries.
The driver of the Citroen, a woman in her 70s, has been taken to hospital with life-changing leg injuries.
A passenger in the Hyundai, a woman in her 60s, has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai, a man in his 60s, has been taken to hospital with reportedly minor injuries.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “The road remains closed in both directions between Longbarrow roundabout and the A36 junction while an investigation is carried out at the scene by our Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT).
