A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Amesbury today (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the A345 Countess Road at 3.24am.
The incident happened between Fargo Road at Woodhenge and Countess Roundabout.
A male pedestrian was walking in the direction of Larkhill when he was struck by a car.
The man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.
However, he was later transferred to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital for life-saving treatment.
Wiltshire Police say he remains in critical condition at this time.
The force confirmed that the driver of the car involved stopped, called 999 and waited for emergency services to attend.
A forensic collision investigation was launched at around midday, with officers carrying out enquiries at the scene – with one lane on the busy route blocked for hours.
