There were horror scenes on the M4 – after a horse was hit and killed in a crash.
Emergency services were called to the motorway in the Chieveley area, just outside Wiltshire, at around 6pm this evening (Wednesday).
According to a witness, the horse jumped over a fence alongside the M4 before running into lane one. It was subsquently struck by a vehicle.
It’s claimed one driver avoided a collision, but after swerving, the driver of a Volvo behind them – a man – hit the animal.
The man sustained minor injuries, while the horse suffered fatal wounds.
National Highways and Thames Valley Police attended the incident, with two of three lanes closed.
Motorists were able to pass the scene as recovery of the car and horse was undertaken.
