A lorry has crashed into a bridge outside Queen Camilla’s home in Wiltshire.

The GMAC Utilities-branded truck, which was towing a trailer, struck the weak bridge off Mons Lane, Reybridge, at around 11am today (Wednesday).

The incident happened just metres from Queen Camilla’s home, Ray Mill House.

The Grade II listed 19th-century country retreat near Lacock is privately owned by the royal, who bought the property before her marriage to King Charles.

Mons Lane has been closed in both directions by police, as has the bridge. Efforts are ongoing to more the trailer to allow the lorry to drive away.

Part of the bridge – which has a weigh limit of 7.5 tonnes – has been damaged.

Around three metres of brickwork has been demolished, with some landing in the River Avon below.

“The driver must have little experience in my humble opinion”, a Lacock resident and former HGV driver told Wiltshire 999s.

He added: “It’s an immensely tight corner, one you may be able to navigate with a lot of experience but it would be tough. I’m not sure I could manage it.”

Another local told of how the bridge is one of the oldest for miles around, situated on what used to be the A4 through Wiltshire.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “At around 10.45am this morning we responded after a lorry collided with a bridge in Mons Lane near Lacock.

“There were no injuries and no arrests.”
