Travellers have taken over a playing field outside a primary school in Swindon.

The large group arrived in Eastern Avenue on Thursday evening (12 June), it’s understood.

More than 15 caravans and many more cars and vans can be seen on the green directly adjacent to Lainesmead Primary School, as locals express anger over the situation.

“As usual, travellers do what they want with no consequences”, a local resident said.

Adding: “It’s not been long since they left crap – literally – all over the field in Wootton Bassett Road, showing they have little care for the community around them.”

Vehicles at the traveller incursion have blocked the footpath between the play park and Lainesmead Primary School’s perimeter fence.

Last week, a group of travellers left a significant mess in the field opposite The Runner pub – with council staff working on the clean-up for two days.

It’s not known if Swindon Borough Council or Wiltshire Police have visited the site as yet. Both organisations have been approached for comment.
