Major delays can be expected after a gas leak on a busy route in Trowbridge.
Two-way traffic signals have been installed on Frome Road, Southwick, as Wales & West Utilities carries out urgent repairs to fix the leak.
The emergency gas works and temporary traffic lights, in place today (Wednesday) are likely to cause significant delays for motorists in the area.
The disruption is being made worse by ongoing gas works on Bradley Road in Trowbridge, which are already causing congestion.
Wiltshire Council issued a statement urging caution and patience. A spokesperson said: “There are currently two-way traffic signals in place on Frome Road in Southwick as Wales and West Utilities urgently repair a gas leak.
“Long delays are expected, so please avoid the area if you can, particularly given the ongoing major gas works on Bradley Road in Trowbridge.
“We have asked Wales and West Utilities to complete the work as quickly as possible and manually control the signals at peak times to help minimise disruption.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Drivers are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes where possible.
