A bomb threat at a school near Wiltshire has sparked a police investigation.

Officers raced to Frome College on Thursday (8 May) after it received a call from someone claiming an explosive device had been planted on the site.

Alongside staff, searches of the education premises were made – as part of the building was evauated to ensure the safety of pupils.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 8.30am yesterday (Thursday 8 May), Frome Community College received a call from an unknown person stating that there was a bomb somewhere on their site.

“Police were immediately called and attended, and with staff they searched the area. Nothing suspicious was found and the call was deemed malicious.

“During this time all students in the specified area of the college were evacuated, the normal school day resumed shortly afterwards.”

A spokesperson for Frome College said: “This morning we received a hoax call which necessitated a visit from the police onto College site to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We extended tutor time whilst the police checked our site, and we have now returned to our normal timetable. The matter is now being handled by the appropriate authorities.”
