A man is in a serious condition after a ‘fall’ from an A419 bridge in Swindon.

Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty in the middle of the road on White Hart Roundabout at around 8pm on Wednesday (7 May).

Members of the public stopped to help the man, aged in his 30s, who sustained serious injuries and significant blood loss after falling from the bridge above.

Police officers and paramedics provided urgent care, before he was conveyed to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The road was closed as 999 crews worked to establish what happened.

The Serious Collision Investigation Team attended over concerns the man may have been struck by a vehicle – but it’s understood this was ruled out.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s fall, which indicates he may have jumped.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has dashcam footage, should contact Wiltshire Police by calling 101 and quoting log 262 of 7 May.

The road reopened to motorists at around 9.30pm.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 8pm yesterday (07/05), we responded to a mental health-related incident at the White Hart roundabout.

“A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

“The road was closed and has since reopened.”

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 19:58hrs on Wednesday 07 May to an incident in Swindon.

“We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, and a critical care car to the scene.

“We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
