An air ambulance has been scrambled after a car ploughed into a Costa Coffee.

Emergency services are currently responding to the serious road traffic collision in Burford Road, Carterton, in Oxfordshire.

It’s understood the incident happened at around 2.15pm today (Wednesday) – with three people suffering injuries, police say.

A dark-coloured Ford Kuga crashed through the front window of Costa. An eyewitness said that it’s believed the driver had a medical episode at the wheel.

A Hazardous Area Response Team was sent to the scene alongside Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “We are currently responding to an incident in Carterton.

“A vehicle has been driven into Costa Coffee in Burford Road, injuring three people.

“Emergency services are at the scene and the road has been closed. We would advise the public to avoid the area at this time.

“We do not believe this was a deliberate act on behalf of the driver.

“If you have footage from the area at the time of the incident we would ask you to share this with us by calling 101 or leaving details via our website, quoting reference number INC-20250507-1109.”

Local councillor Simon Watson said: “Thinking of everyone affected by today’s incident at the coffee shop and deeply grateful to our emergency services for their swift response.”
