A man has died when he was struck by a vehicle after falling from a bridge over the A303 in Wiltshire overnight.

Emergency services were called to the major route in the Mere area at around 11pm last night (Monday, 14 April).

The incident involved a 39-year-old man falling from a bridge over the A-road. He was subsequently hit by a vehicle.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance attended alongside local 999 crews – but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by officers”, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said.

They continued: “Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“The road has now fully reopened and our investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may have dash cam footage leading up to it, should contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting Log number 322 of 14/04.

“Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
