A seriously injured child has been airlifted to hospital, with Wiltshire Police launching an investigation into the circumstances.

Emergency services raced to reports of a wounded five-year-old in Wootton Bassett Road, Swindon, at 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon (12 April).

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance landed at the scene, with the charity’s critical care medics – alongside local ambulance crews – providing treatment.

The child was airlifted to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for urgent care.

Wiltshire Police confirmed that officers attended to investigate the cause of the injuries.

“We responded to concerns for the welfare of a five-year-old child in Wootton Bassett Road, Swindon, at 4.30pm this afternoon”, a force spokesperson said.

Adding: “Officers assisted air ambulance colleagues and conducted enquiries into how the child came about their injuries, the circumstances of which are not thought to be suspicious.

“The child has been airlifted to hospital and no arrests have been made.”
