A young girl has died after an air ambulance was scrambled to an incident in Faringdon.

Emergency services were called an infant suffering a medical episode in Gloucester Street at around 8.30am this morning (Saturday).

Thames Valley Air Ambulance landed in a nearby field, as medics rushed to provide critical care to the casualty.

Despite the best efforts of 999 crews, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Thames Valley Police confirmed that the force responded to assist ambulance crews with a “medical episode involving an infant girl”.

They added: “Very tragically, the girl has passed away.

“The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the Oxfordshire Coroner.

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family of the child at this extremely distressing time.”

Local police have issued a statement thanking an ‘unknown’ member of the public who transported the air ambulance medics from Lechlade Road Allotments, where the helicopter landed, to the scene.

On social media, an officer wrote: “A huge thank you! Oxfordshire Response Team 5 extends sincere gratitude to the unknown member of the public who kindly assisted in transporting our colleagues from Thames Valley Air Ambulance to an incident in Faringdon.

“We also apologize for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected closure of Gloucester Street—we appreciate your understanding and patience.”
