The police have helped the RSPCA remove ‘lots’ of dogs from a Wiltshire home.

Numerous animal welfare professionals attended a residential property in Hillworth Road, Devizes, on Wednesday morning (19 March).

Two Dogs Trust ambulances were parked in the street alongside two police cars, a Wiltshire Council van and RSPCA van.

A local claimed there were “dozens of dogs” living at the address, and concerns had been raised with the RSPCA several times.

As many as 20 dogs are thought to have been taken as part of the operation. However, the exact number is unknown at this stage.

Parvis Khansari, Wiltshire Council’s corporate director of place, said that “a report of a large number of dogs being kept in a property” had been “passed to the RSPCA for investigation”.

Adding that on Wednesday, “an officer from our Animal Welfare team visited the property” – and this was “at the request of the RSPCA”.

Support was needed in order to remove and transport all of the dogs to a local charity.

Mr Khansari continued: “A follow up advisory visit will be made to the occupant of the property in the coming days.”

It’s not clear why Wiltshire Police were required at the scene. The force had not responded to our request for comment at the time of publishing. The RSPCA declined to comment.
