A school in Wiltshire has issued a warning after children were ‘followed by a van driver’.
Several ‘worried’ pupils at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy reported two concerning incidents in recent days – with Wiltshire Police contacted about the matter.
In communication with parents, a spokesperson said that a male in a white van was claimed to have been “watching and following students on their way home from school”.
They continued: “Whilst we’re not writing this to cause worry, we want to let you know we have had these reports and we are supporting students who have raised concerns.
“Please be reassured that we take reports of this nature incredibly seriously and we have reported this to the local police to ensure that our students feel safe when making their way to and from school.
“Any advice they give us will be passed on to you promptly.
“Whilst we implement a strict ‘no mobile phone’ policy within the school day, we would actively encourage students to have their mobile phones in their bag and switch them on when making their commute home.
“Please encourage your child to call their emergency contacts immediately if they become worried or concerned on their journey home.
“We are also asking that you take the time to discuss ‘stranger danger’ and getting home safely with your child and have open discussions with them regarding this matter.”
Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
