A councillor has launched an investigation into why a Wiltshire town has turned smelly.

Sam Pearce-Kearney, who represents Calne South, says local residents have complained of a ‘strange’ pong – and is now working to resolve the issue.

But at the moment, it’s not clear where the smell is coming from. Council staff are said to have ruled out the nearby Hills Waste site.

In a statement, he said: “Thank you to everyone who has contacted me about the strange smell covering our town.

“I’ve been working to identify the source, and council teams are confident we can rule out Hills at this point.

“Public health visited this afternoon but couldn’t detect the smell, so the additional detailed information you’ve provided this evening is incredibly helpful.

“We are investigating all other possible sources.

“If you have any further information, please feel free to comment below or contact me at [email protected].

“Any thoughts on the time of day you notice the smell, the location where it’s strongest, and any description of the smell would be extra helpful. Again, thank you for letting me know about the issue.”
