A person has died after being struck by a GWR train in a Wiltshire village.

Emergency services were called to a foot crossing in Pewsey at around 2pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

The casualty, who was hit by a GWR train travelling between London Paddington and Plymouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance landed opposite Fordbrook Business Centre. It’s understood the team were stood down shortly after arriving.

In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Pewsey railway station at around 2pm today (26 February) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The railway line remains blocked, and delays to services are expected until gone 5pm.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 13:58hrs on Wednesday 26 February to an incident In Pewsey.

“We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, an operations officer, and a doctor to the scene.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 2.34pm today (26 February) to Frensham Way, Pewsey to support the British Transport Police.

“Two crews were mobilised; one from Marlborough and one from Amesbury but both were stood down before arrival.”
