One person is dead and two others have been critically injured in a crash in Cirencester.

Two air ambulances were deployed alongside five ambulances following the single-vehicle road traffic collision on A419 Cirencester Road at around 10.30am yesterday (Wednesday, 5 February).

In the incident on the roundabout outside roundabout for Siddington Park, close to Dobbies Garden Centre, a silver Volkswagen Polo left the carriageway and hit a tree.

Numerous critical care medics from both Great Western Air Ambulance and Midlands Air Ambulance attended in their retrospective helicopters, which landed near the scene.

A passenger of the vehicle, a man aged in his 60s and from Cheltenham, sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed, and are being supported by police.

A man and woman, both aged in their 80s, also sustained significant injuries. They were taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where they remain in a life-threatening condition.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “Road closures were put in place while a collision investigation took place and these were removed last night.

“Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and has not already spoken to police or anyone who has dashcam footage they feel may be relevant.

“Information can be provided to police online by completing the following form and quoting incident 127 of 5 February.”

South Western Ambulance Service confirmed that they sent “five double-crewed land ambulances, two air ambulances, an operations officer and a tactical commander” to the crash.

Adding that crews “conveyed two patients to Southmead Hospital” for further treatment.

A spokesperson for Great Western Air Ambulance yesterday said: “Our crew were tasked to an incident in Siddington, Cirencester at 10.34am today.

“They responded by helicopter with two critical care doctors and a specialist paramedic on board.

“They treated the patient at the scene and ground-escorted them to hospital.”
