A casualty has been rushed to hospital after a two-car crash near Chippenham.

Emergency services raced to a road traffic collision on the A342 Old Derry Hill, at the junction with Church Road, shortly after 7am this morning (Monday).

The incident involved a black Ford Focus and a red Rover MG ZS 180, with both vehicles sustaining front-end damage.

Great Western Air Ambulance landed metres from the smash, opposite the The Lansdowne Arms. A doctor and two critical care paramedics provided emergency care to a patient on scene.

Two fire crews – from Chippenham and Calne – attended. Firefighters assisted one casualty from a vehicle, while two others had self-extricated from the wreckages.

One person was taken to hospital by land ambulance for further treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

The road was closed between Sandy Lane and A4 New Road, and at Studley Lane into Derry Hill, for around four hours while 999 crews attended and the vehicles were recovered.
