A fallen tree has seriously injured a van passenger in a crash during Storm Eowyn.
The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity helicopter landed in Hinton village, just over the Wiltshire border north-west of Chippenham, at around 8am today (Friday).
Critical care medics provided emergency care to a passenger of the Vauxhall Movano van in Hinton Hill, who was reportedly struck by a tree which penetrated the windscreen.
They were taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by land ambulance, escorted by the air ambulance team.
The patient is understood to have sustained serious by not life-threatening or life-changing wounds.
The incident happened as Storm Eowyn battled the region overnight and this morning.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of a “tree falling and colliding with a vehicle”.
The road was closed for around two hours while the incident was dealt with.
