A man’s been detained after threatening to set fire to himself and his flat in Swindon.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the block of around eight flats in the Covingham area at around 5pm this evening, alongside a number of staff from social services.

Four fire engines were at the incident in Siren Close on Oaksey Park, with two armed police officers assisting the emergency services with the detaining of the male before a fire could be ignited.

FIRE ENGINES AT THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT

Residents were evacuated from the building for a short time while the incident was ongoing.

It’s understood that he was taken to a ‘place of safety’ by Wiltshire Police.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that there was no fire to attend to, but their firefighters had fitted a new fire alarm in the property.
