A man ‘risked lives’ driving under the influence of drugs in Chippenham.

Louis Clifford sped along the A350 and onto Malmesbury Road in a silver Mercedes C250 before being stopped by a police officer in April this year.

The 26-year-old, of Harewood Road, Bristol, was asked to complete a DrugWipe, which confirmed he had cocaine in his system.

He was arrested for the offence and provided a sample of blood in custody, which returned a result of no less than 32 micrograms of cocaine per litre – the legal limit is ten micrograms.

The defendant, who is described by police as a “persistent offender” was banned from driving for three years at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (19 November).

He must also pay £1,485 in fines and costs.

PC Luke Hobbs, from Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “There is no excuse for drink or drug driving.

“When you choose to do so, you are taking not just your life into your own hands but the lives of others on the road.

“If you are caught drug driving, you will be banned from driving for a minimum of 12 months, face hefty fines and potentially land yourself in prison.”
