A man has been sentenced after crashing into a mum and two kids in Malmesbury.

Emergency services were called to a two-car road traffic collision on the B4042 at around 2pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday, 27 June).

All within the 24 hours following the incident, Steven Adams was charged and hauled before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Friday).

The 40-year-old, of Sunnyhill, Stroud, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and assaulting a firefighter following his arrest at the scene.

He also admitted failing provide a specimen of blood for analysis.

The court heard the Adams ploughed head-on into another car contain a mum and two children. They were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The defendant was detained by members of the public after attempting to flee.

Magistrates imposed a 24-month driving ban and a 24-month community order with the requirement to complete 31 rehabilitation activity days.

He must also pay a £140 fine, £100 compensation, £85 costs and a £114 surcharge
