Wiltshire man dies after being struck during car crash on A350

A Wiltshire man has died after being struck during a car crash on the A350.

Emergency services were called to the major road near the village of Compton Abbas in north Dorset at around 7.45pm yesterday (Thursday, 6 June).

The incident involved a silver Audi TT Quattro, a grey BMW 218i and a pedestrian.

Despite the best efforts of 999 crews, a man – aged in his 60s from Warminster – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family having been informed.

A passenger from the Audi – a man aged in his 20s – was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious.

An urgent probe was launched, and officers later arrested a 19-year-old man from Shaftesbury and a man aged in his 20s from Mere on suspicion of driving offences.

The road was closed in both directions for over 12 hours as police carried out a forensic collision investigation and recovered the vehicles involved.

Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and the loved ones of the man who very sadly died in this collision.

“We are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of the collision and I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures. These are absolutely necessary to allow for a thorough examination of the collision scene to be conducted.”
