A huge hoard of illicit vapes and tobacco have been seized at a Swindon shop.

Police and immigration enforcement officers raided Zabka Polski Sklep in Manchester Road on Wednesday (22 May).

Working with trading standards at the scene, they uncovered illicit vapes and tobacco in the Polish store and at a linked premises.

The estimated resale value of the seized products, which often contain dangerous chemicals, is said to be worth approximately £30,000.

Two people were arrested by officers, and have since been bailed as the investigation continues. A vehicle connected to the store was also seized.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court following the raid, police secured a three-month closure order for the retail premises prohibiting it from opening.

Temporary Inspector Tristan Winter said: “The sale of such products brings anti-social behaviour and crime to the area, and we know that the products themselves are unchecked, often harmful materials/chemicals and if used can be a risk to the health of those using them.

“Such vapes are often used in the exploitation of children and as such we want to clamp down on this type of illicit trading.

“There is also the wider economic impact on local retailers who are working within the confines of the law.”

The operation took place as part of Clear Hold Build – a multi-agency initiative in Broadgreen aiming to tackle organised crime in the area and build a stronger community.
