A Swindon teaching assistant has admitted abusing numerous children.

28-year-old Samuel Powers previously pleaded guilty to 44 sexual offences.

At Gloucester Crown Court today (19 April), a jury found him guilty of raping a child.

The defendant, of Milton Road, Swindon, faces a lengthy term behind bars for his crimes.

His offending, against teenage boys, included sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, paying for sexual services, voyeursm, making and possessing indecent images of child.

Detective Sergeant Zoe Purnell said: “Sam Powers used his position to access and groom vulnerable children and use them for his own sexual gratification.

“His conviction today comes after a long and complex police enquiry that commenced in 2022.

“We would like to pay tribute to all of the victims who came forward and supported the investigation – it is thanks to their bravery that Powers has been stopped from offending again.”

Powers is due to be sentenced in June 2024. He was remanded in custody.
