A 13-vehicle crash on the M4 sparked a huge emergency response on Saturday (23 March).
A signifiant number of ambulances were deployed following reports of the road traffic collision near Swindon, between junctions 14 and 15, at around 3.15pm.
The motorway was closed in both directions to allow Wiltshire Air Ambulance to land, and numerous Hazardous Area Response Team ambulances from Bristol rushed to the incident.
One person was physically trapped within a vehicle, and had to be extricated by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.
In total, three casualties were treated by paramedics – but nobody sustained any serious injuries.
It’s believe the crash was as a result of the weather — either a heavy downpour of hail or surface water which had formed as a result.
The eastbound carraigeway reopened after the air ambulance landed, and one lane on the westbound carriageway was reopened at 5.30pm.
