A van has been destroyed in a fire in Corsham – as police seized the owner’s second van.

Emergency services were called to Oliver Avenue, off Pickwick Road, at around 12.40pm this afternoon (Monday) following reports of a vehicle blaze and explosions.

Firefighters from Chippenham used hydraulic cutting equipment to enter the Ford Transit van before extinguishing the flames. The explosions, heard for miles around, were aerosol cans.

As the incident was ongoing, police reportedly discovered that the vehicle did not have an MOT and the trailer it was towing didn’t have a number plate.

But things went from bad to worse for the owner of the vehicle when he arrived in a second van – a Mitsubishi – which has allegedly been untaxed since last year.

Both vans were seized by officers at the scene, and it’s understood the owner will be dealt with for numerous motoring offences.

Both vans were owned by local builders – who were working on an extension at a property in nearby Dickens Avenue.

Pickwick Road, and Oliver Avenue, were closed – and later partially blocked – while the fire was put out and recovery was arranged for the vehicles.
