A Wiltshire Air Ambulance car has been involved in a crash on a junction in Melksham.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A350 Beanacre Road at around 9.30am this morning (Saturday).

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance critical care car, a Volvo XC90, and a red hatchback were involved in the smash on the junction for Bath Road — close to the train station.

Nobody is believed to have been seriously injured, but the occupant of the red car was taken to hospital for treatment.

The critical care crew were responding to an incident in Chippenham, using blue lights, at the time of impact.

A Wiltshire Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “I can confirm our critical care car was involved in a road traffic collision shortly after 9am today (Sat 2 Mar) whilst en route to a mission in Chippenham.

“The crew are unharmed and the other individual involved in the collision was treated on scene before being taken to hospital.

“Thankfully another resource was able to attend the original mission in Chippenham to treat the patient.

“The matter will be investigated, as is standard procedure, and it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Drivers are advised to avoid the A350 Beanacre Road in the Melksham following a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

“Traffic is likely to be delayed until the vehicles can be recovered. Please seek alternative routes and allow extra time if driving in the area. Thank you for your patience.”
