A car driver has died after being involved in a crash with two lorries on the A420.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the major road linking Swindon with Oxford around 12.50am this morning (9 January).

Two heavy goods vehicles and a red Toyota Yaris were involved in the incident near Faringdon, with one of the lorries reportedly overturning.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, sustained significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the lorries which was involved in the initial collision jack-knifed and collided with a stationary lorry.

Investigating officer Sergeant Tony Jenkins, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family of the man who has tragically died in this collision.

“They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

“I am appealing to anybody who was driving in the area at the time of the collision and has any information that can assist this investigation to please get in touch with us.

“If you have dash-cam in your vehicles, I would ask you to please check this and contact us to provide this to us.

“You can make a report online or by calling 101, quoting reference 43240011641.

“The A420 has been closed for several hours while the vehicles were recovered and an investigation was under way.

“It currently remains closed for resurfacing work and is expected to re-open later this evening. We would ask drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes, and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”

Editor’s note: Thames Valley Police has corrected the age of the deceased driver from in their 70s to in their 40s. We have updated this within the article.
