Marlborough’s firefighters have moved into an ambulance station following major flooding.

Emergency services mounted an operation to rescue residents from their homes south of the High Street after the River Kennet burst its banks on 5 January.

Due to water damage to the fire station in The Parade, the fire engine and vital kit has been relocated to the South Western Ambulance Service station in Stonebridge Close.

In a statement, a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson thanked locals for their offers of assistance – and confirmed that they have a new base in the town.

“First of all, a big thank you to the Marlborough community for the many offers of help and support we’ve received since last week’s flooding”, they said.

Adding: “While the fire station is likely to be out of commission for some weeks, we have moved to another site in the town and are still able to respond to emergencies as before.

“We don’t have a timeframe yet for the repairs being completed, but we’ll be moving back in as soon as we can. Thanks again to you all, and stay safe!”
