A Wiltshire man attacked a driving instructor over his ‘slow’ student, a court heard.

30-year-old Che Lee-Cummins was driving his Audi in Corsham when he became angry with the speed of the learner car ahead of him in November 2022.

Prosecutor Tony Nowogrodzki said that the “impatient” defendant revved his engine and got close to the rear of the vehicle during the road rage incident.

Professional instructor Derek Finlay, who was sat in the passenger seat and teaching a 17-year-old boy, signalled to Lee-Cummins in a bid to get him to back off.

Mr Nowogrodzki said that Mr Finlay’s student was driving appropriately for the road conditions and his driving ability.

Lee-Cummins swerved in front of the learner car and stormed over to confront the pair. The instructor had to apply the dual control brakes to avoid a collision.

Angry, he demanded Mr Finlay get out of his vehicle but he refused. Whilst he was still sat in the car, the defendant then punched him in the face – causing a bleeding nose and broken tooth.

Ahead of his trial at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (Monday), Lee-Cummins pleaded guilty to assault.

District Judge Joanna Dickens said that the assault was “very serious” because it happened in road rage and caused an injury which could affect the victim for the rest of their life.

The defendant, of Nasturtium Grove, Melksham, will be sentence on 11 March. He was bailed so an all options pre-sentence report can be completed.
