A cannabis factory has been discovered in a house in Swindon, after police received reports of suspicious activity at the address in Stratton on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning, the electric board were at the scene off Beechcroft Road. They dug up part of the garden – thought to be to make the electrics safe as they are often re-wired to steal electricity.

Forensic officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary were seen removing hydroponic equipment from the Merton Avenue home at around 2pm on Saturday afternoon. At around 4pm, a further six large bags were removed from the property – possibly cannabis plants.

Three rooms in the house were found to have cannabis plants growing in them.

52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and cultivation of cannabis.

One neighbour, who lives just a few doors away, told Wiltshire 999s that they ‘rarely see anyone at the property’, and are ‘unsure whether anyone actually lives there’.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police commented: “A cannabis factory was discovered at an address in Merton Avenue, Swindon, at approximately 8.35pm on Friday following a call regarding suspicious activity at the address. Plants were found growing in three rooms.

“A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and cultivation of cannabis. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”
