A Swindon road was closed tonight after a car overturned leaving a casualty trapped inside.

The crash happened on Bath Road near the Victoria Road junction at around 7pm.

999 crews worked to free one person  from the wreckage for 45 minutes, before they were put on a spinal board and taken into the ambulance – which remained at the scene for some time.

It’s not believed the occupant/s of the car suffered any serious injuries.

Fire crews from Swindon and Stratton fire stations attended the scene. A spokesperson said: “The crew used holmatro cutting equipment, stab-fast stabilisation gear and a vehicle winch. The casualty was successfully extricated and handed over to South Western Ambulance Service.”

The road is expected to reopened at around 9pm.
