A mum-of-five assaulted a police officer after being ejected from a nightclub.

34-year-old Kayleigh Black was detained by bouncers at Star Bar in Wood Street, Swindon, following an alleged disorder on 6 August this year.

Police were called to the incident at around 2am and found the intoxicated defendant shouting ‘get that little f***ing princess out of that club’ outside the venue.

Officers took over from security staff and Black continued to act aggressively, prosecutor Pauline Lambert told Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (23 August).

A woman – who the defendant appeared to have a grievance with – exited Star Bar and the aggression continued. Black lunged towards the woman, kicking PC Katie Vassallo in the leg.

She continued to try and get to the woman by pushing forward. At the same time, she was shouting ‘that f***ing little b**ch’ and ‘I will f***ing find you’.

Black pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of an emergency worker and a Section 5 Public Order Act offence.

Terry McCarthy, defending, said his client has managed to get to the age of 34 with no convictions.

“It seems she went out that evening, just after the break down of a long-term relationship… she was in the bar and there was a difficulty with this other person. It seems Ms Black was the one who was ejected and she thought this was unfair”, he told the court.

Adding: “When she saw the other person, she did try to go towards her and there was contact with the officer’s leg – probably a leg going into the other leg.

“It was not directed at the officer… she apologises through me to the officer.”

Mr McCarthy said the Black, of Purely Avenue, Park South, is currently unemployed, suffers with depression and has five children.

Probation officer Michelle James said that the defendant was a binge drinker, but has since this incident, reduced this to just a few drinks at the weekend.

“I don’t think this lady will be troubling the courts again… I think this served as a lesson to her”, she commented.

Magistrates imposed a 12-month community order with one requirement – that Black carries out 80 hours of unpaid work. She was also told to pay £85 costs and a £141 surcharge.
