A woman’s been arrested after a cyclist was seriously hurt in Melksham on Wednesday (31 May).

A man, aged in his 40s, was reportedly – by choice – holding onto the side of a moving car as he was towed along Spa Road on a red bicycle at around 6.30pm.

Unable to maintain his connection to the vehicle, he fell off and sustained significant injuries – described as potentially life-changing by police.

After being treated by local ambulance crews and Wiltshire Air Ambulance medics, he was airlifted to Southmead Hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the car, a local woman in her 40s, left the scene but was later found at a property nearby.

She was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and for drug driving and remains in custody for questioning.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to either the collision or for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the lead up to it.

“Anyone who can help is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 0282 of May 31. Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at [email protected].”
