Police have stepped up patrols in Calne after children were seen clambering on a roof.

Over the Easter school holidays, local officers have received numerous reports of youngsters on Phelps Parade and Iceland – and attempting to reach greater heights.

PCSO Mark Cook urged parents to speak to their children about the dangers of accessing roofs.

He said: “Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, we have seen this issue return with youths again also attempting to access the higher adjoining pitched roofs putting themselves at even greater risk.

“This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and could result in a tragedy if one of these youths were to slip and fall.

“We are urging parents and guardians to speak with their children regarding the risks they are placing themselves in whilst gaining access to this area. Your words may prevent a tragedy.

“We have been assured that measures discussed with Wiltshire Council (who own and manage Phelps Parade) will be implemented as soon as possible to prevent youths accessing the roof putting themselves at a risk of harm.

“We are patrolling this area as a preventive measure. Calne CCTV and local residents have also been advised to report any persons seen on the roof.”
