Two people have been rushed to hospital following a chemical incident in Westbury.

Emergency services, including seven fire appliances and five ambulances, were deployed to the scene on Stephenson Road, Hawksworth Park, shortly after 12pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

The huge 999 response followed a report of a significant chemical spill at a business premises.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) sent four fire crews from Warminster, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon and Frome.

An incident command vehicle from Devizes alongside a supporting appliance and an environmental support unit from Gillingham were also tasked.

Whilst South Western Ambulance Service dispatched three Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) ambulance crews from Bristol, two double-crewed ambulances and an operations officer.

Two casualties were taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for treatment following the incident.

DWFRS confirmed that on arrival, the size spill was “far less than first feared” – with some crews stood down and others remaining on scene until around 1.40pm to provide assistance with the clean-up.
